Talks on the forming of the government and the parliamentary majority will continue today with a meeting between Democrats and Socialists. The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS)-Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS)-United Serbia (JS) coalition representatives will meet with Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic. Democrats, Socialists to continue talks on govt. “Leaders of the parties in our coalition will today continue the talks with the leader of the Democrats and economic and national program are two basic issues that the government will deal with immediately after the forming,” SPS deputy leader Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic told Tanjug. According to her, the cooperation with the Republic of Srpska (RS) and the Kosovo issue will also be discussed. SPS deputy leader Zarko Obradovic stressed that a program of the future government must be agreed first before talks on ministries could begin. The last meeting was held on Wednesday and PUPS leader Jovan Krkobabic said just before the meeting that he “expects Tadic to say something new about the parliamentary majority”. The DS leader informed Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic the same day that the DS-led coalition was close to forming the parliamentary majority and that he would announce that it was formed in several days. “When it comes to the Democratic Party, we believe that a program government should be formed quickly in the next several days, with clear tasks and goals, a European-oriented government, without the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), or the government will be formed by the Progressives on some other platform and of course we would not take part in it at any cost,” DS deputy leader Jelena Trivan stressed. “As far as Kosovo and the RS are concerned, the government based on the DS will continue the fight for Serbia’s sovereignty and legitimate interests of Serbs, no matter where they live and this is not questionable. Our goal is a functional and operative government that will come out before citizens with concrete goals in every area so they could assess its work,” she concluded.
