President Boris Tadic met on Sunday in Belgrade with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit. Tadic expressed his gratitude for Egypt's decision not to recognize the unilateral independence declaration made by Kosovo's Albanians two years ago. Tadic thanks Egypt over Kosovo The president's cabinet also said in a statement that Tadic emphasized during the meeting there were many possibilities to improve economic cooperation between the two countries, and noted that Egypt was one of Serbia's most important partners in Africa and the Middle East. The president also said that Serbia and Egypt enjoy traditionally friendly and close relations. Gheit also met with Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, who assessed that the visit was a confirmation of good relations between the two countries, adding that it is necessary to improve economic cooperation as well. "We very much appreciate Egypt's firm position in defending the principles of international law, as well as their participation in the process of determining the legality of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and Metohija," Cvetkovic said. According to the statement of the Serbian government's press office, Cvetkovic and Gheit agreed that there is potential for the improvement of economic cooperation, not only in respect of increasing the volume of trade, but also in the area of investments. "The forthcoming visit of distinguished Egyptian economists to Serbia, scheduled for February 25, is particularly important for the improvement of economic cooperation," the statement reads. Gheit was also received on Sunday by his Serbian counterpart, Vuk Jeremic.
