Report: UN lifts immunity of EULEX judge

The Associated Press is reporting this quoting "a senior international official in Kosovo who spoke on condition of anonymity."

Judge Francesco Florit is suspected of accepting a bribe to secure the release of Kosovo criminals while he served with EULEX mission. He has denied the accusations.

AP noted that EULEX derives its mandate from the UN, and quoted the official as saying that "immunities have to be lifted before a judicial investigation."

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini earlier this week appointed an independent expert to look into the implementation of the EULEX mandate and the allegations of corruption.

EULEX prosecutor Mariah Bamieh publicly accused three high ranking officials of the EU mission of receiving bribes and was afterwards suspended from her job. She then decided to file criminal charges against her superiors.
