It noted that the suspects for the murder of Ćuruvija, the owner of Dnevni Telegraf and Evropljanin, have been arrested in the previous period, but that there is still no answer to the question who ordered the murder, adding that the moral accountability of the people in power at the time of the murder has not been questioned.

The Foundation also underlined that the light has not been shed on the murders of reporter of magazine Duga Dada Vujasinović and daily Večernje Novosti correspondent Milan Pantić.

“The values that Slavko Ćuruvija fought for, such as freedom of speech and the right of editors to make decisions for a media publication in line with the standards of the profession and the law, have not been achieved yet,” the statement reads.

The Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation said that the government has to take decisive steps to secure the freedom of the media and create an atmosphere in which the reporters will be able to do their job in accordance with the highest professional standards.

The foundation said that it was necessary for the media to be freed from both direct and indirect influence of the government on their editorial policy.
