Ferrero looks to make Serbia "hub of hazelnut production"

Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamočić stated after the signing ceremony that Ferrero's investments will enlarge the area covered with hazelnut trees from 1,000 hectares to over 10,000 hectares by 2020.

The cooperation between the Italian company and Serbian producers will create an opportunity for promotion of hazelnut production in central and eastern Serbia.

The minister noted that Serbia imports 90 percent of hazelnuts from Turkey and Georgia.

Glamočić underlined that the Serbian government has worked really hard to attract investments such as this one, adding that Serbia is open for investments from the whole world, both from the East and from the West.

Michele Valensise, secretary general at Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underlined that Italy has always offered firm support to Serbia on its EU pathway and it will continue to do the same in future as well.

Noting that Ferrero's investment shows that Italian companies are interested in Serbia, he expressed hope that other companies from this country will also come to the Serbian market.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Italian Ambassador to Serbia Giuseppe Manzo.
