President Boris Tadic says that the EC’s recommendation to the EU Council of Ministers is big news for Serbian citizens. He said that he was glad that other countries in the region would also be receiving visa liberalization, as that raised the standard of living in the region. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic echoed Tadic’s sentiments, but said that there was still much to be done and that the country should continue along the path it had taken. “As of January 1, 2010, citizens of Serbia will be able to travel to European countries without visas and their personal dignity will thus be restored,” said Cvetkovic. However, he underscored that the job was not over yet, because Serbia still had a lot to do and to continue along the path it had chosen. “At the same time, this information shows that the Democratic Party and the coalition gathered around it have kept their promises given during the election campaign,” stressed Cvetkovic in a statement released by his cabinet.
