LDP pushes for faster adoption of EU laws

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has stated that steps need to be taken by the government to ensure faster adoption of laws vital to Serbia’s EU integration. The LDP stated that the government should mark the laws as “European”, in order for parliament to adopt them faster. He explained that laws marked “European” would be debated by the relevant ministerial committees and that amendments would be recommended, so that the laws could enter parliamentary procedure as soon as possible. Andric said that such practice was common in many European countries but that a parliamentary watchdog for the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU had to be formed as part of the LDP’s proposal. He added that the ruling coalition, rather than the opposition, was more to blame for the slow pace of adoption of European laws, adding that he was still hopeful that the 14 laws already in parliamentary procedure would be adopted by the end of the year.
