  1. united kingdom was the best
    (emily, 13 May 2007 10:02)
  2. Congratulations Marija and Serbia. Your fans down here in Australia really appreciated such a beautiful song. It out shone all the rest.
    (Christine, 13 May 2007 10:24)
  3. Congratulations to Marija; it was an absolutely fantastic performance, and she showed herself to be a wonderful ambassador for Serbia. All of Serbia should be proud of her achievement!
    (Michael, 13 May 2007 10:43)
  4. No, the UK wa not the best at all. And after Zeljko Joksimovic getting second 3 years ago, and after not competing because of the riot with Monttenegro (and thus not competing) last year it is more then deserved. It is a real song and sung by someone who knows what music is! no make-up, normal clothes etc. etc. Well done!
Could you imagine the Ukraine winning this? my god no....!
    (frans, 13 May 2007 10:56)
  5. It was an excellent song and it showed that politicians should learn about music. Music joins spirit and they might listen to much more often they do. Serbia got most of points because they diserved.
    (Manuel, 13 May 2007 11:35)
  6. No it wasn't. The UK was terrible! Serbia deserved to win.
    (adam562, 13 May 2007 11:57)
  7. Congratulations Serbia, you had the absolutely best song in this competition. Good luck in the future!!
    (Mia, Sweden, 13 May 2007 12:34)
  8. Despite trying to laugh it off as a bit of a jolly and a farce (it IS), has everyone else noticed that the British seem to take this contest more seriously than every other European country put together. Their overreaction at getting the cold shoulder from Europe is even funnier than their embarassing entry, Scooch. Didn't Scooch already enter before ?

    Circa 1983 ?

Ha Ha, what a laughing stock.

Then there's the allegations of block-voting, conspiracy theories about losing votes because of the Bush/Blair Iraq fiasco, threats to withdraw from future contests. Serious stuff this Eurovision Ha Ha Ha.

As for Serbia, as winners, they have the "priviledge" of pouring €15m of tax payers money into hosting the event. It's a €15m tourist ad that will be seen by over 100m viewers. That's all it is.

    Better make it count! [link]
    (good morning, 13 May 2007 12:53)
  9. Congrats to Marija and the rest of the team involved in the entry representing Serbia - winning Eurovision brings joy for the success today but is also a great opportunity next year to promote the best of serbia when they hold the contest!

Well done to all who made it a success and for those who voted for Serbia!
    (Princip, UK, 13 May 2007 12:54)
  10. lithuania the best!!!
    (aras, 13 May 2007 12:58)
  11. Congratulations to Marija and to Serbia. I loved the song and Marija won because she definitely had the best voice in the competition. I am already planning a trip to Serbia for next years Eurovision. Hopefully bring a big gang of other Brits to Belgrade with me for what will probably be the best party of the decade.

Emily are you serious? I was heartily embarassed to be british when Scooch came on. All though it is about par for the course and an unfortunate return to Bucksfizzness.

On a personal note, the next time I'm in FYROM does anyone have Karolina's phone number?
    (Jack, 13 May 2007 12:58)
  12. Congratulations and thank you marija. You deserve the victory and made serbians from all over the world proud to be from serbia. thanks, we have waited long enough.
    (katja, 13 May 2007 14:47)
  13. Bravo Serbia !!

I am French living in Russia and there are many European students where I am. Most of us liked your song and I voted for you.

Your song was great and I am more than glad you won, you deserved it after Zeljko's second place, which was unfair.
    (Alex, 13 May 2007 15:42)
  14. Being Enlgish living currently in Belgrade I thought I would be torn in 2 to decide who I wanted to win but after watching the contest Serbia outshone the UK and all other countries even though I did not understand the lyrics. I can't wait to find out where it will be hosted next year so that I can possibly obtain a ticket. Congratulations from a Brit proud to be living in Belgrade.
    (Louise, 13 May 2007 16:36)
  15. I am an albanian from Kosovo and I want to congratulate Serbia for winning Eurovision
    (Arberi, 13 May 2007 18:26)
  16. Jack made me laugh...

thanks Jack, if I had Karolina´s number, you´d be the first I would give it to.

Louise: hope you have a nice time in Belgrade!
    (Jovan, 13 May 2007 20:05)

    Um, no.

The major funding partners of the EBU (notably the UK, France, Germany & Spain) are not only guaranteed to be in the final, they also get to pick up almost the entire bill when the host country is too poor. So, for example, who payed the most for the Ukraine hosting? The UK tax payer...

  18. Personally I am scared to see all the three fingered salutes that nationalists wave all over the place. I only hope the win for the girl will lead to more business and cooperation with the rest of world for Serbia.
    (John S., 13 May 2007 21:38)
  19. Congrats to Marija. There were a lot of other great acts but "Molitva" was truly a great song.

But to me, what really stood out from all of this was the news that much of the former Yugoslavia voted for Marija. Man I can't tell you how happy I am about that news. Because this display of unity and friendliness is truly what will bring prosperity to everyone in the former Yugoslavia. Anyway, that's just my belief. But congratulations Marija no less!
    (Phil, 14 May 2007 03:18)
  20. Congratulations to Marija and all the Serbs. She indeed sang good.
    (Jeton, US, 14 May 2007 04:28)
  21. congratulations! can anyone send me a link so i can hear the song or part of it, assuming such a link exists? even outside of europa, curious minds wish to know : ))

  22. Congratulations from Austria!
Wonderful Song, well deserved win. I have hopes that this will serve to further integrate Serbia into Europe and show that the _people_ of the european countries still relate to each other even if their goverments do not.
    (George, 14 May 2007 09:34)
  23. Congratulations to the singer that represented Serbia.
Next year the contest will be held in Serbia and Serbia will welcome the singer-representative of the newest country in Europe, KOSOVA.
    Have a nice day.
    (Afrim Hoxha, 14 May 2007 10:33)
  24. indeed the points from other Balkan countries helped maria to won the competition :) It is really nice to see that some of the bad feelings are fade way..
    great song!..
A not to anybody from B92 , if you can please pass this note to Maria team
As a Russian native speaker I have a personal advice to Maria...Please don't sing it in Russian, you ruin it..In Serbian it is great and passionate song, in Russian it is an exercise in wrong grammar, pronunciation and the bad poetry. ..Chorus just don't have any sense, partly Serbian words made to sound Russian. Guy who made a translation thinks that he know Russian, but shool lessons from the childhood is not enough..Brateeee is not enough..no offence...
Sing it Serbian, da te celii svet rasume :)

  25. Well done to Marija: Serbs around the world were rooting for you and Serbia!
    (Stevo, 14 May 2007 11:00)
  26. Nice to see a good song sung by a 'normal' girl win the competition. By normal i mean a girl who isn't a plastic bimbo in a bikini or a cross dressing gender bender with shock value.

Its sad that here in the UK the press are alleging foul deeds. That political voting hindered the UK's entry (which we all agree was camp, soul-less, and sung out of tune). The press here told UK citizens on the appointment of Nikolic that Serbia's neighbours hate her... today they say Serbia won Eurovision because her neighbours love her???? I got several text messages after the victory. Most saying that i must be a 'proud Serb' tonight? I replied 'no,... i am a proud Serb every night'.
    (Anthony Shelmerdine, 14 May 2007 11:22)
  27. Molitva was taken from Albanian song Ndarja by Soni Malaj.
    (Svente, 14 May 2007 12:37)
  28. no way it was taken from the Albanian song you mentioned. I listened to it here [link]

and the only resemblance is that they are both based on soul music. nice try :)
    (haylee, 14 May 2007 12:51)
  29. Robert-O

You can find the lyrics in various languages and a 30 second clip of the song at the Eurovision page [link]/

Sorry, don't know where you can get a full playing of the song at the moment.
    (Jack, 14 May 2007 13:23)
  30. Good song and congratulations to Serbia... Even though it seems that this not-so- politically correct voting going on will result in some western European countries withdrawing from the contest in 2008. And it is a catch-22 situation: they do not send good songs because they know how powerful the blocks in Eurovision are and they won't be voted... Any ideas to make the voting system less scandalous?
    (Carlos, 14 May 2007 15:31)
  31. The Song "Molitva" is an absolute copy without the copyright of the Song "Ndarja" by Soni Malaj, an Albanian Singer.
    (Enis XHEMAILI, 14 May 2007 15:51)
  32. Congratulations Serbia. Marija's song was a class act - I love the English version but I think it's terrific that a song in my mother tongue didn't win. That make's Serbia's victory one for Europe's glorious linguistic diversity too.

I can't wait to see what RTS will do with this event. It's always a good show, full of fun and freaks. But please, don't be like the Finns at YLE, take the opportunity to celebrate the beauty of your nation. After 3 and a bit hours, I'm still none the wiser about Finland other than knowing that's where Father Christmas is from!

Please show us more than people being given bread and salt, as lovely a custom as that is!
    (James, UK, 14 May 2007 17:35)
  33. the sun published this as a stolen sung

    (james, 14 May 2007 18:50)
  34. Zdravo Serbia from the U.K. Marija is such a well deserved win. Be proud of her as I'm sure you are. As far as the quality of the UK song, there was no quality worth mentioning. Hope I can be in Bgd next year to enjoy the show.:)
    (David, 14 May 2007 19:15)
  35. well Soni should have complained before the competition, now it's done and please let it go. No more conflicts!
    (Arlinda, Tirana, Albania, 14 May 2007 19:20)
  36. A deserved winner. Beautiful song.

And no it isn't taken from an Albanian song. I read this nonsense somewhere else, and the only resemblence was maybe the first note, the rest of the first verse, they didn't even put up the whole song, sounded nothing like Marija's song.
    Stop spreading nonsense.
    (Richard Z, 14 May 2007 22:15)
  37. Good grief...

Can't you "independent Kosovo" advocates give your opinion on a fairly apolitical subject without going back to the same old rhetoric?
    (Nuno, 15 May 2007 01:29)
  38. Congratulations Serbia.
    Congratulations Marija.
Thank you Europe for choosing best song in Eurovision song contest. Overall it was a wonderful event.
Serbia is with you Europe and Europe is with Serbia.
    Peace be with you all.

    COMMENT ON THIS STORY

SERBIA'S victory celebrations in this year's Eurovision Song Contest have been marred by claims the track is a COPY of another song and accusations of eastern European block voting.
Critics reckon Molitva, performed by Marija Šerifovic, is a rip-off of an old Albanian track.

    To see Eurovision controversy

One man who has posted a video comparing the two songs side by side online told me: "I knew this Albanian song long ago. It won a popular song competition called Top Fest that is organised there yearly.

"As soon as I heard Serbia's song I realised it was plagiarised.

"I am not aware if they did it intentionally or not but the similarity was obvious."

Meanwhile the awful SCOOCH - who finished second from last in the contest with just 19 points - and host TERRY WOGAN have claimed the vote was more about politics than singing.

Terry said: "Block voting detracts and I don't think we'll end it.

"But still, we only came second last. Unfortunately Ireland came last. And western European countries were left out in the cold, I'm afraid."

Scooch member David added: "We hoped this year would be different with no 'old pals' act in the voting.

"It was our best ever performance. We thought we'd really flown the flag for the UK but we were vote victims. It is a farce.

"The best song never seems to win."

    (jemarlena, 15 May 2007 06:56)
  41. Bravo Serbia! Truly "Molitva" deserved the first place. I love Serbia, its amazing place with amazing people, and I'm not a Serb even.
