Asset also said that since his entire team will not arrive in Belgrade before the end of January next year, the NATO office will not arrange the first troop transits before February.

“The transit contract is a good foundation for the cooperation between Serbia and NATO when it comes to Kosovo. It will facilitate NATO’s rapid troop transfer to Kosovo, should that be necessary, in order to protect any community in danger”, the NATO liaison office chief said, asked to comment on NATO’s cooperation with the Serbian authorities regarding Kosovo.

NATO’s Belgrade liaison office opened on Monday, December 18, in the Defense Ministry building, and has set assisting with the reform and modernization processes within the Serbian armed forces as its main objective. The office opened days after Serbian president Boris Tadić signed the agreement formally introducing Serbia to NATO’s Partnership for Peace.
