US President finds a new scapegoat for the crushing defeat and launches a scathing attack on him PHOTO
Donald Trump has found a new scapegoat for the Republicans' electoral defeat in the US midterm elections: Fox News, the television network he once considered one of his biggest allies.
After Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress, the US president launched a scathing attack on the conservative television network on Wednesday, accusing it of contributing to the Republicans' defeat by regularly inviting Democratic representatives onto its programmes.
He was particularly angered by an appearance by former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, whom he harshly criticised in a social media post.
"Why does Fox News keep Bill de Blasio, the worst mayor in New York City history, on the air, ranting and raving like a lunatic? He left the city in disgrace, and the damage he caused was immeasurable – the city was never the same again, and now he's telling us how to run America," Trump wrote.
He then directly blamed Fox News for the Republicans' electoral defeat, criticising the network for inviting political opponents onto its programmes.
"Fox News is responsible for these defeats because it constantly and persistently gives airtime to the opposition from the ranks of the Dumocrats, and worse. GOD BLESS AMERICA! President DONALD J. TRUMP," the US president concluded in his post.
Trump had earlier congratulated Democrats on their success in Tuesday's midterm elections and acknowledged that the Iran issue had also contributed to the Republicans' defeat, as Democrats prepare to take control of Congress.
According to projections by US media outlets, Democrats have taken control of both chambers of Congress – the Senate and the House of Representatives – putting Trump's legislative agenda at risk.
Trump, however, rejected the notion that the results represented a personal defeat for him. "I wasn't on the ballot," he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
