Egypt's ex-President Morsi to spend 20 years in jail

Former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of demonstrators in 2012, news agencies are reporting.

This is the first verdict to be issued against the first democratically elected president in this country.

The reading of the verdict in the trial of the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, who was ousted as president in 2013, was broadcast live on national television.

At least ten people were killed in 2012 during the protests against Morsi.
