Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on extending the state of emergency and mobilizing the country for another 90 days, starting on May 25.

Zelensky signed; "We are preparing for the second phase"

The text was sent to the Ukrainian parliament and must be approved by at least half of the deputies, reports the BBC.

A state of emergency was imposed in Ukraine on February 24, the day of the Russian military operation.

The initial deadline of 30 days has been extended twice so far.

The first decree of the Ukrainian president on mobilization was passed for 90 days and was applied to all regions in the country.

Last week, Ukraine's defense minister said he hoped to arm a million fighters as the country prepares for a "new, long phase of the war".
