Members of the Nezavisnost workers union took over the headquarters of Zastava Arms, a weapons manufacturer in Kragujevac, central Serbia. This came because the authorities are refusing to recognize the association as the representative of the workers, the protesters said. Union members take over arms plant offices Union spokesperson Sanja Antonijevic told Tanjug news agency that they would not leave the offices until the papers they had been waiting for months arrived. "Nezavisnost has some 400 members and the first request regarding representation was filed in August last year," she noted. The labor law requires union membership to be at a minimum of 15 percent of the total number of employees, which Nezavisnost has met, since the company has 2,150 employees, Antonijevic explained. According to her, the members entered the headquarters around 07:00 CET and interrupted a meeting of the management.
