Valley Albanians protest over students

Local Albanians will protest the decision not to allow two students to enroll in the 3rd grade in a Medvedja high school. Alberta and Violce Salihu completed the ninth grade in a secondary school in Kosovo Polje, Kosovo, last year and moved to Medvedja in southern Serbia proper. At the end of the 2006/2007 school year they did not get certificates for the completed 2nd grade as the Education Ministry had not validated their primary school diplomas obtained in Kosovo. Members of the ethnic Albanian community, dissatisfied that the problem had not been solved, announced the protest, as those employed in municipal and state institutions consider going on a strike until the Education Ministry has complied with their demands. Deputy municipal president of Medvedja, Albert Salihu along with the pupils’ parents, will travel to Belgrade on Monday and take the protest to outside of the Serbian government building.
