Some 1,500 former army reservists from Kursumlija in the south have started hunger strike late Thursday. The veterans, who claim that eight years after the end of the war in Kosovo they have not been paid their due wages, set up road blocks yesterday, renewing a similar protest of last month. Dejan Milosevic, a former soldier, told reporters the strike will continue until their demand is met. "We will stay in the building and then go out and block the highway once again. Our families and people from other towns will join us," Milosevic announced late last night. The veterans have asked the local authorities to call an extraordinary session of the municipal assembly for today, and added they will use "heavy machinery" to block the Nis-Pristina highway. The former Yugoslav Army (VJ) reserve soldiers, who were called up and under obligation to participate in the war, have entered the town hall in Kruševac to start a hunger strike.Dejan Milošević, a former soldier, told reporters the strike will continue until their demand is met.
