Six people are confirmed to have died this morning in a traffic accident on the road between Kikinda and Novo Milosevo. Police say the crash occurred at 5.15 a.m., leaving six dead, another person with serious, and one with light injuries. Six die in Vojvodina minibus crash The accident occurred when a minibus taking medics from the Vojvodina town of Senta to a seminar in Lepenski Vir, eastern Serbia, crashed into a tractor trailer loaded with harvested corn that was blocking the road. Senta medical center chief, Tari Jene, told B92 that one of the two injured nurses was transported to a Novi Sad clinic where doctors continue to fight for her life this afternoon. The judge in charge of the investigation, Karolj Smit, said that the driver of the tractor that blocked the road tried to warn the minibus driver that the tractor's engine could not start. Repeated MUP warnings, that the number of fatal accidents that occur due to excessive speeding was on the rise on Serbian roads, seem to be too often falling on deaf ears. "At the end of September and in early October, when there's fog on the roads, drivers must be extra careful," MUP's Safety and Prevention Department Chief Branko Pantovic said today. Early reports suggest that poor visibility and speeding seem to have been the cause of the latest road tragedy. The municipality of Senta has declared Friday a day of mourning, as police investigation continues.
