Two die in bus crash in Croatia

Karlovac police spokesperson Tanja Petrić told B92 that the two persons who died have been identified as Jelka Damjanović and Kata Šimulija, both Serbian citizens.

The Serbian embassy in Zagreb has confirmed the news, and added that Jelka Damjanović's son, who was travelling with her, sustained only minor injuries.

“At 3:23 a.m. we received a report about the accident. The privately-owned bus with Split lisences plates flipped over near the highway exit for Karlovac. Emergency medical workers shortly arrived to the scene,” Petrić said.

Karlovac General Hospital Chief Gordana Pavan confirmed that all of the injured passengers were taken to the Karlovac hospital and that one individual with serious injuries was transported to Zagreb for treatment.

She said that 32 people were treated and that 13 of them are still in the hospital.

Petar Milošević, a Karlovac emergency medical worker, said that the injuries are varied, from spine, head, leg and arm, to more minor injuries.

Reports suggest that the majority of passengers who sustained injuries are Serbian citizens.

Police stated that the driver of the bus is in hospital and under police surveillance.
