The fish in the River Skrapež in western Serbia died due to a high concentration of ammonia and lack of oxygen.

Sewerage caused river disaster
Cvijović explained that although the analysis of the fish was not yet complete, the water samples taken in the river showed a high concentration of organic matter that linked to the oxygen in the water.The results of the analysis also showed that heavy metals were present in the samples, however, in concentrations insufficient to cause the disaster which occurred on July 29, only one in a series of spills that killed tens of tons of fish in Serbian rivers this summer.
