Bosnian prosecution has requested the court to keep Tihomir Purda, whose extradition was requested by Serbia, in the extradition custody for another six months. Court Spokeswoman Selma Hadzic stated that the request for prolongation of Purda's extradition was met with explanation that decision-making process on Purda's extradition would be lengthy. Purda to stay in custody for another six months “This process will not be completed by February 14 when Purda's 40-day custody expires,” she said. The Bosnian prosecution and Purda's defense presented their opposing stands regarding Serbia's request for Purda's extradition at a hearing held in the Bosnian court on February 1. The prosecution stated that conditions had been met for the extradition, whereas Purda's defense attorney Josip Muselimovic strongly opposed this, warning that all evidence against Purda was collected in an unlawful manner. Muselimovic requested Purda's release and dismissal of Serbia's extradition request. The Bosnian laws do not proscribe any deadline by which such a decision should be made, however it is stipulated that the person, whose extradition is requested, can be held in custody for six months. The Serbian judiciary has charged Purda with alleged participation in the murder of two members of the former Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and the serious wounding of another during fighting in Borovo Naselje, a Vukovar suburb, in 1991. The Serbian authorities issued an international warrant through Interpol for Purda's arrest in 2007. Purda was arrested on January 5, 2011 at the Orasje border crossing between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia.
