Albania welcomes EU Kosovo mission decision

The Albanian foreign ministry said Saturday that it welcomed the EU decision to send a supervising mission to Kosovo.

The Albanian foreign ministry said Saturday that it welcomed the EU decision to send a supervising mission to Kosovo. "It is an important decision for the future of Kosovo. It reflects the special situation in Kosovo and its unique nature," the foreign ministry said in a statement. Albania welcomes EU Kosovo mission decision The ministry said it was convinced that the decision precedes a step that the EU would soon give its support to Kosovo's independence, which Albania considers as "the sole realistic solution to the Kosovo issue". EU leaders on Friday agreed to send a civil mission to Kosovo to take care of security issue and oversee the rule of law and public administration in Kosovo whose fate is pending on a UN decision. Albania is currently constructing a road across its mountainous border to link its port city of Durres with Kosovo. Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha has said that his country was ready to open its border with Kosovo if Serbia imposes a trade block on the province should it declare independence.
