"Government wants to be given clear mandate"

According to her, "the decision is in the interest of Serbia and its citizens."

"Despite the fact that it has the parliamentary majority and support, the government wants to be given a clear mandate by Serbia and the citizens and wants them to say what policy they support," Gojkovic told a press conference following a meeting of the SNS Head Committee.

The decision to call early parliamentary elections will enable the citizens to go to national, provincial and local elections on the same day, Gojkovic said, adding that presidential elections were not discussed as the president's term expires next year.

At the proposal of SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic, the upcoming SNS Assembly meeting was postponed until after the elections, most likely for May 21, Gojkovic also said.
