"Long way to EU, Serbia has friends in Brussels"

“This is a big success for Serbian politics and society. You should keep the momentum going, so that we can open more chapters in 2016,” McAllister said on Sunday evening at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS), congratulating Serbia on the recent step forward.

McAllister came to a meeting at the PKS to get informed about its work as, in Germany, the Chamber plays an important role, acting as a strong voice of the business community.

He especially commended the effort the PKS had invested in promoting regional cooperation, including good cooperation with Kosovo, and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic also received McAllister, who has said that Serbia has a lot of friends in Brussels, noting that its place is in the European Union.

During a working dinner on Sunday, Vucic and McAllister talked about the recent opening of the first two negotiation chapters and Serbia's EU path, the government's press office said in a statement.

The prime minister informed McAllister about the further talks with Pristina, and the situation in the region.

The EP rapporteur congratulated the Serbian government on the opening of the first chapters.

Serbia's place is in the EU, McAllister underscored.

He also informed Vucic about the draft resolution on Serbia, which is due to be discussed at the EP, said the statement.
