"Belgrade and Priština should ensure good elections"

"Belgrade and Pristina should ensure good elections" Addressing a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council, which was attended by all 57 members, Zannier stated concern about security in northern Kosovo, the OSCE said. He noted he was still concerned about the security situation on the ground and the boycott campaign, which included fear tactics against candidates and people involved in the election process, adding that it could have a negative effect on the turnout. Zannier believes both sides will fulfil their obligations stemming from the Brussels agreement and the implementation plan. "These elections are particularly important, not only for the local population in northern Kosovo and the relevant parties in the process, but also for overall reconciliation and normalization of the relations in the region," he pointed out. The OSCE will assist during the elections in northern Kosovo and provide the necessary technical support to enable voting through e-mail from outside Kosovo and in four municipalities in the north.
