New Serbia (NS) is calling for new elections to be held in Belgrade because of the large debt of the capital city and the centralization of the city government. NS Belgrade Council President Borivoje Borovic told journalists that the council begins its official campaign on Sunday for getting new city elections called with the goal of “protecting the citizens and city of Belgrade.” NS calls for new elections in Belgrade He said that the city is in debt EUR 232mn for the bridge that will be built over Ada Ciganlija, EUR 140mn for the bridge that will link Borca and Zemun, and that there is a EUR 170mn budget deficit because of which the city will have to take out loans with commercial banks. Borovic said that the bridge over Ada Ciganlija is a complete “traffic miscue” and said that the city is forgetting about the development of the communal system and is not paying attention to equally developing all parts of the capital. He said that the zoning of construction land in the city will also decrease investments. NS activists are in Belgrade’s main pedestrian zone of Knez Mihailova street handing out pamphlets stating the reasons for wanting to hold new elections in Belgrade.
