Ruling Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) official Aleksandar Nikacevic has been given the job of acting secretary general of the AMSS. Belgrade daily Blic says that Nikacevic was "one of the hated figures of the regime of Slobodan Milosevic", and reminds that he was president of the Association of Students in 1991 during anti-Milosevic student demonstrations in Belgrade. Milosevic regime figure back in business As police threw tear gas at the protesters, he was recorded referring to them as "traitors and enemies of the people". As NATO attacked Serbia in 1999, he was sent to take over Radio B92 and was appointed the outlet's "editor-in-chief". He held on to that position until the regime crumbled on October 5, 2000. Although he kept a low profile after that, Nikacevic was listed as donating RSD 200,000 to the party, which returned to power last year after an eight-year hiatus. His appointment, the newspaper writes, completes the "SPS takeover" of the Automobile and Motorcycle Association of Serbia (AMSS). According to this, Interior Minister and SPS leader Ivica Dacic in June "managed to push Nikacevic through". Police have jurisdiction over a number of state organizations, including the AMSS.
