Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic announced that the government will not regulate the span of salaries in public companies. At the same time, the prime minister said that his cabinet will influence the earnings of their administrations. PM comments on salaries in state companies Cvetkovic told journalists in Belgrade on Monday that several weeks ago, "before the high salaries scandal” broke out, the government ordered an analysis of business dealings and wages in public companies. He said that this analysis is almost complete and that the government will soon discuss proposals for adequate solutions which will focus on the earnings of management in the state owned enterprises in Serbia. “That is a relatively serious problem, because the public companies are mutually specific, but we also need to find a model which will highlight this, and be fair, so we do not allow huge salaries to be paid in a time of austerity,” the premier said. He added that some public companies in Serbia are monopolists while others are competitive in their fields, which is why they will be treated differently once the model for wages is presented. Cvetkovic said that the proposal related to the salaries in public companies will be a part of a package of measures which the government will implement in order to alleviate the negative effects of the world financial crisis.
