Cedomir Jovanovic says he will shake the hands of Kosovo Albanians, so he may "take the guns they're holding." The leader of the Liberal-Democrats (LDP) and that party's presidential candidate was campaigning in Nis, southern Serbia, when he made the remark Sunday, quoted by Beta news agency. "I'll shake Albanians' hands to take their guns" "Serbia needs a president who will cross the Ibar River bridge, but not in order to put up walls to separate peoples," he said, in reference to a de facto separation line between Kosovo's Serb-inhabited north and the rest of the province. "We must know the truth about Kosovo in order to change Kosovo, and Serbia with it," Jovanovic added. He also said that Serbia can use Kosovo as an opportunity "to show it has changed" and voiced hope he will become the president, who will demonstrate that Serbia "can also care for life in Kosovo, instead of only growling at it." "There is no Europe without friendship with European nations, and there is no world without reconciliation," Jovanovic was quoted by the agency, apparently commenting on Serbia's integration into international institutions. "A policy that makes Kosovo the heart of Serbia leads to the departure of the young people who will go aboard," he told the Nis rally. The LDP leader also denounced "all politicians in Serbia," describing them as "hiding behind Vladimir Putin's portrait." "It's incredible that they have learned nothing from this Putin, and have not noticed what Putin does to his Miskovics, nor that he is not even contemplating breaking off the ties with Europe and America," Jovanovic said, in reference to one of his prime political targets, Delta Holding owner Miroslav Miskovic.
