Parliament continues to debate amendments to the Defense Law. The Defense Law regulates Serbia’s defense system. Parliament to discuss Defense Law The law also confirms the authority of state institutions and the military in its tasks. The proposal defines the rights and obligations of other state institutions, autonomous provinces, local administrations, citizens, industry communities and other people within the system. The law stipulates that the army will be commanded by the President, who will appoint a military cabinet for duties in the area of defense. It also calls for parliament to assume civil and democratic control of the defense system, and the government to confirm and adopt defense policies. The proposal strictly prohibits the use of the army for party, religious or ideological purposes, and outlaws the formation of paramilitary organizations or associations.
