Polt: Independence only option
Polt told the Vijesti daily that U.S. under secretary of state Nicholas Burns did not tell the House Committee on Foreign Affairs that Washington would unilaterally support Kosovo’s independence should the UN Security Council fail to reach an agreement.Polt said Burns’ words were “misinterpreted”, and added the coming months will be very difficult for the relations between Serbia and the United States.
“Burns presented the U.S. policy on Kosovo clearly and accurately, by saying that the U.S. worked with the Security Council to reach our goal, and that is supervised independence,” Polt said.
“We will seek to adopt a new UN resolution, to replace Resolution 1244, and we will do this in partnership with all Security Council members, hopefully with Serbia as well,” Polt concluded.
