Bosnian politicians meet in Srebrenica

Srebrenica citizens submitted a request to part from the Republic of Srpska (RS). Banja Luka authorities condemned the meeting announcing measures against those who try to hinder the legal order of the country.

Almost all Bosniak political leaders confirmed their presence at today’s meeting. BH Presidency members Željko Komšić and Haris Silajžić will also attend. They are all in favor of the Srebrenica Citizens’ Association even though they appealed to the returnees to refrain from collective emigration from their town.

Srebrenica’s secession from the Republic of Srpska and the setting up of the district area have recently been key subjects of all political activity in Bosnia.

“Following the International Court of Justice’s ruling in the Bosnian lawsuit against Serbia, we should all encourage all sides to solve the question of Srebrenica and grant it the privileged status of a district area.”, Srebrenica Municipality Chief Abdurahman Malkić said.

Republic of Srpska leaders will boycott today’s meeting. RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik called the efforts to change the constitutional order of Bosnia an act of political manipulation.

“If international officials attend the meeting in Srebrenica, Banja Luka would think of it as a direct violation of the Dayton Accord, and the RS Government would implement legal measures in municipalities that try to breach the constitutional set-up of the Republic of Srpska.” Dodik argued.
