Slovenia reacts to ECRI report

“In no segment have the standards of protection offered to asylum applicants fallen below the EU standards in this field and we believe that in some areas the existing legislation of the Republic of Slovenia still provides for higher standards than average“, the statement reads.

Commenting on the status of the so-called erased persons, the statement says that “in order to regulate the situation of citizens of successor states to the former Yugoslavia whose permanent residence registration became invalid once the provisions of the Aliens Act started to apply to them, the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Slovenia has proposed a Constitutional Act amending the Constitutional Act Implementing the Basic Constitutional Charter on the Independence and Sovereignty of the Republic of Slovenia, and submitted it to government procedure“, adding that given the fact that a two-thirds majority of the National Assembly is necessary to adopt a constitutional act, the procedure of harmonizing the contents of the constitutional act was still under way.
