BELGRADE The Special Court in Belgrade has delivered a decision to remand Nemanja Kolesar in custody for up to 30 days. He is suspected of illegal activities during the Sartid privatization, Organized Crime Prosecutor Miljko Radisavljevic told Tanjug on Monday. Former official remanded in custody for up to 30 days A pre-trial judge ordered the detention of Kolesar, because he is considered a flight risk and for causing public concern. Kolesar was the chief of staff of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, who was assassinated in 2003. On Saturday, the prosecutor's office launched an investigation against Kolesar, on suspicion that he abused his office during the privatization of Sartid in 2002 and 2003. The Smederevo-based steel mill was renamed "U.S. Steel Serbia" after the privatization, and is now once again owned by the state under the name Zelezara Smederevo. As for an investigation against former Commercial Court President Goran Kljajevic, who is included in criminal charges relating to Sartid privatization fraud, the decision will be made subsequently. Police have filed additional charges against Kolesar and Kljajevic, on suspicion of having committed the offense of abuse of office. A pre-trial judge ordered the detention of Kolesar, because he is considered a flight risk and for causing public concern.

On Saturday, the prosecutor's office launched an investigation against Kolesar, on suspicion that he abused his office during the privatization of Sartid in 2002 and 2003.

The Smederevo-based steel mill was renamed "U.S. Steel Serbia" after the privatization, and is now once again owned by the state under the name Železara Smederevo.
