The Hague Tribunal has rejected Vladimir Lazarevic's request for temporary release for health reasons. At the same time, the court stated that a release would help his medical condition and recovery. Ex-VJ general to remain in Hague custody The retired Yugoslav Army (VS) general and former commander of the Pristina Corps, is accused of war crimes committed against Kosovo Albanians in 1999, and is currently in custody at the Hague’s Scheveningen prison facility, awaiting a verdict in his trial, which ended in August. At the end of the trial, Lazarevic was not in court because he underwent surgery, according to his defense lawyers. In late September, Judge Iain Bonomy’s trial chamber allowed Lazarevic to be temporarily released to speed up his rehabilitation, but the appeals chamber later approved the prosecution’s demand to keep Lazarevic in custody. Even though the request was denied once against today, the chamber stated that his wellbeing and health would benefit from the presence of his family and friends. Along with former Serbian President Milan Milutinovic, Nikola Sainovic and generals Dragoljub Ojadanic, Nebojsa Pavkovic and Sreten Lukic, Lazarevic is accused of forcefully relocating, deporting, killing and persecuting Albanians in Kosovo in the first six months of 1999. A verdict is still being waited on for the trial, which took place between July 10, 2006 and August 26, 2008, before the Hague Tribunal.

The retired Yugoslav Army (VS) general and former commander of the Priština Corps, is accused of war crimes committed against Kosovo Albanians in 1999, and is currently in custody at the Hague’s Scheveningen prison facility, awaiting a verdict in his trial, which ended in August.

At the end of the trial, Lazarević was not in court because he underwent surgery, according to his defense lawyers.
