Serbia's external trade deficit in January totaled USD 575mn, said the Statistical Office. This 16.6 per cent more than in the same period last year. January trade deficit USD 575mn Serbia's exports in January stood at USD 721.7mn, which is 26.2 per cent more than in the same month last year, while the country's imports added up to USD 1.29bn, which represents a 21.8 per cent increase relative to January 2010. Coverage of imports by exports reached 55.6 per cent, which is more than that in January 2010, when it totaled 53.7 per cent. In the domain of exports, Serbia's main trade partners included Italy, with which the country realized trade activities worth USD 91.6mn, followed by Germany with USD 77.8mn worth of trade and Romania with exchange at USD 66mn. When it comes to imports, the country's main partners were Russia with USD 243.8mn worth of trade activities, Germany with USD 95.3mn and China with which Serbia achieved USD 94.8mn worth of exchange. Serbia recorded greatest external trade with countries with which it has signed free trade agreements. EU countries make up for over a half of realized trade activities, followed by countries that signed the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), with which Serbia recorded trade surplus worth USD 74.7mn , primarily in the export of agricultural products. Viewed individually, Serbia realized greatest surpluses in trade with Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia, while greatest deficits were recorded in exchange with the Russian Federation due to the high import of fuel, primarily oil and gas.
