Tesla celebrated today

At the Niagara Falls in Canada, where the first alternating current power station, following Tesla’s landmark findings in that field, was opened, a monument celebrating Tesla was built as well, on the insistence of a Serbian church group located in Niagara.

Aleksandar Pantelić, from the Niagara municipality, said that Niagara Falls is the best place possible to erect a monument for Nikola Tesla.

“We erected this monument for him, which may not be as great as his accomplishments, but is worthy enough. I cannot think of a better location than this one for erecting a monument for him because this place is historically linked to his work.”

“Our Nikola said on May 21, 1892 in Belgrade: I have something in me that could be a fault, as many young and inspired people do, but if I am able to achieve some of my ideas, it will be for the good of all humanity. If all of my hopes are fulfilled, the sweetest thought will be that this was the work of a Serb.” Serbian Foreign Economic Relations Minister Milan Parivodić said.

A celebration and commemoration will be held today in his hometown of Smiljane in Croatia, where his home has been restored and a museum has been created. The opening of the museum today will be attended by Croatian President Stjepan Mesić, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, as well as Serbian President Boris Tadić.

The festivities will continue in Serbia tomorrow as well, with the unveiling of commemorative coins and stamps by the National Bank of Serbia in honour of Tesla.
