Details emerge from drama at German Airport: Driver kicked an explosive-laden drone out

The man spotted the drone flying at low altitude while working at Leipzig/Halle Airport late Tuesday evening and then kicked it away.

Detlef Seif, a senior member of the ruling CDU, described the man’s actions as a brave but dangerous act.

Prosecutors said the drone was equipped with a professional explosive and detonator before crashing nearby, Seif said.

Federal prosecutors have launched a terrorism investigation, describing the incident as a serious attack that could have endangered security both in Germany and abroad.

Authorities have not released the man’s identity, nor have they said where the drone came from or how it managed to enter the restricted area of the airport.

Suspicion has reportedly focused on Russia, but investigators have so far presented no evidence linking Moscow to the incident.

The Russian Embassy in Berlin described the incident involving an explosive-laden drone at Leipzig/Halle Airport as a “provocation” directed against Moscow.

“It is obvious that this hastily organized provocation serves exclusively the interests of Kyiv and the militaristic wing of the European political establishment,” the Russian Embassy said in a statement on Telegram.
