As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Easter holidays were more dramatic for US President Donald Trump than previously known.

During a rescue mission involving two American service members in Iran, the president was reportedly not fully briefed by his advisers on purpose.

Instead, according to US media reports, they kept Trump away from the relevant crisis meeting because his impatience would not have been helpful.

The Wall Street Journal writes, citing a person familiar with the events, that Trump was only informed at key moments.

However, Trump allegedly began shouting, which lasted for hours, at his advisers after learning about the downing of a US fighter jet.

He was reportedly concerned that the soldiers might fall into Iranian hands and suffer a fate similar to that during the presidency of Jimmy Carter, when in 1979 the US embassy in Tehran was attacked and many Americans were taken hostage.

A US F-15E fighter jet was reportedly shot down in early April. One pilot was rescued relatively quickly, while the second crew member was later found in what Trump described as “one of the most daring search-and-rescue military operations in US history.”

Much of the operation reportedly involved diversionary maneuvers at different locations, while the injured officer, who was heavily bleeding, climbed steep cliffs.

While treating his own wounds, he managed to contact US forces. His rescue followed a “life-and-death race” between American and Iranian forces, the New York Times cited US officials as saying.

More than 150 aircraft were reportedly involved in the operation.

After the second F-15E crew member was rescued, Trump wrote that the fact both operations were carried out “without a single American killed or even injured” again proved “overwhelming air superiority.”
