A person believed to be connected to the kidnapping of a journalist has been detained
Iraqi authorities have arrested an individual linked to the Iranian militia Kataib Hezbollah in connection with the abduction of American journalist Shelley Kittelson, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Dylan Johnson reported.
The Iraqi Ministry of Interior confirmed that Kittelson was abducted in central Baghdad on Tuesday evening. Iraqi security forces seized one of the vehicles used in the kidnapping and arrested one of the suspects. Operations are ongoing to locate the remaining perpetrators and secure the journalist’s release.
Al-Monitor has called for her “safe and immediate release” and emphasized the importance of her reporting from the region. The U.S. Embassy in Iraq has repeatedly warned American citizens to leave the country due to the heightened risk of kidnappings.
The U.S. State Department announced yesterday that Kittelson had been warned about “threats” against her.
Two police sources also said yesterday that the journalist, who holds an American passport, was abducted in Baghdad by unknown individuals.
Kuwait’s largest bank closes headquarters due to Iranian attacks
The National Bank of Kuwait, the country’s largest bank, announced that it will close its headquarters in the capital for two days due to the security situation and ongoing Iranian attacks.
Both the headquarters in Kuwait City and the branch in Subhan, near the airport, have been closed.
Footage of mosque attack released
A video has been released showing yesterday’s U.S.-Israeli strike on a mosque in the city of Zanjan, one of the major Shiite religious centers in central Iran.
According to the state news agency ISNA, three people were killed in the attack, while several others were injured.
