The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it expresses “sincere and lifelong loyalty” to Mojtaba Khamenei, emphasizing that it will “obey orders and be ready to carry them out,” according to Al Jazeera.

The Iranian agency Tasnim also reported a message from the Revolutionary Guard stating that the organization declares “respect, loyalty, and obedience to the one chosen by the Experts Assembly for leadership.”

In a statement published by state media, it was noted that the decision of the 88-member Assembly of Experts demonstrates that “the movement of the Islamic system does not stop and that the revolution and the Islamic order do not depend on individuals.”

It is added that the election of Mojtaba Khamenei represents “a new dawn and the beginning of a new phase in the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Previously, the Iranian Assembly of Experts — the body responsible for choosing the country’s supreme leader — by a large majority voted to select Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei as the third supreme leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Tasnim agency reported.

The statement from the body notes that the election was held immediately after learning of the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other prominent commanders and civilians, “despite the difficult wartime conditions and direct threats from enemies.”

The Assembly of Experts emphasized the importance of continuity in leadership and the need to respect the Constitution and internal rules in the process of selecting a leader, so that the state would not be left without governance.

“The election of Mojtaba Khamenei was carried out in accordance with the principles of Islamic law and the Constitution, and the Assembly of Experts calls on all citizens and the societal elite to show loyalty to the new leader and preserve the unity of the state,” the statement said.

The new Supreme Leader of Iran was selected after the previous leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed at the start of the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28.
