Ali Khamenei's son has been appointed as the new Supreme Leader of Iran

The Iran Leadership Council has reportedly elected Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as new Supreme Leader of Iran. This decision was made under pressure from Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), citing Iran International.

After the killing of Ali Khamenei, Iranian authorities formed a Leadership Council, whose purpose was to temporarily assume the duties of the Ayatollah and select his successor.

The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, stated that Khamenei’s killing represents a “very bitter incident” for the entire Iranian nation and that this act “has burned the heart” of the Iranian people.

Ali Khamenei who led Iran for 37 years, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Tehran on Saturday.

He will be buried next to his father, near the shrine of Imam Reza Shrine, in Iran’s second-largest city.

The date of the funeral has not yet been announced.
