Alarm for Trump: "We will respond like never before"
If forced, Iran will defend itself and respond like never before, Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations said today.
“Iran is ready for dialogue based on mutual respect and interests, but if forced, it will defend itself and respond like never before,” the mission said in a statement posted on its official account on X.
Reacting to a warning by U.S. President Donald Trump that the United States would carry out an attack stronger than last year’s strikes—during which U.S. forces attacked Iran and its nuclear facilities—if Tehran does not come to the negotiating table, the statement said that more than 7,000 Americans were killed in U.S. attacks on Iraq and Afghanistan.
“The last time the United States launched wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, it spent more than seven trillion dollars and lost more than 7,000 American lives,” the statement said.
Earlier today, Trump called on the Iranian authorities to enter negotiations.
“We hope that Iran will quickly come to the negotiating table and negotiate a fair and just deal that does not involve nuclear weapons—one that is good for all sides. Time is running out; this is truly of the utmost importance,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
He said that he had previously called on Iran to negotiate, which Tehran, according to him, rejected, after which military action followed—“Operation Midnight Hammer” on June 22 last year.
“The next attack will be much worse. Do not let it happen again,” Trump said.
He reiterated that a large “armada” of U.S. military vessels has sailed toward Iran.
“It is a larger fleet, led by the large aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, than the one sent to Venezuela. As in the case of Venezuela, it is ready, willing, and able to quickly accomplish its mission—with speed and violence, if necessary,” Trump added.
Earlier, the U.S. President expressed during a rally in Iowa his belief that Iran would agree to a deal.
The day before, the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group was deployed to the Middle East due to tensions sparked by violent protests in Iran, the U.S. Central Command announced.
