The blow was returned; Donald Trump erupted in fury PHOTO
U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the United Kingdom over plans to hand over Diego Garcia Island to Mauritius. The island, which is part of the Chagos Archipelago, hosts a U.S. military base.
The U.S. president described the move as a “great stupidity.”
“The fact that the United Kingdom wants to give away an extremely important territory is an act of great stupidity and yet another in a very long list of national security reasons why Greenland has to be acquired,” Trump wrote on the platform Truth Social.
Trump said that China and Russia have perceived the move as an act of “total weakness.”
“Denmark and its European allies must do the right thing. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” the U.S. president said.
On the other hand, British Minister Darren Jones stated that the comments made by the President of the United States regarding the transfer of sovereignty over Diego Garcia Island to Mauritius “will not change the agreement” that has already been reached.
He emphasized that the British government, through diplomatic skill and careful balancing of relations, remains in a strong position despite changes in the U.S. administration.
While officials highlight the continuity of the agreement, politicians such as Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party and close to Trump, have publicly supported the U.S. president, criticizing the handover of the island.
“Thank God Trump vetoed the handover of the island,” Farage wrote on the X network.
