ATP once again "overlooks" Djokovic
The ATP has officially announced the list of candidates for the three most prestigious player awards of the 2025 season – the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award, the Newcomer of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
In the "Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award" category, which honors outstanding professionalism, respect for opponents, and contributions to promoting tennis, the nominees are:
-
Grigor Dimitrov (2024 winner)
-
Carlos Alcaraz (2023 winner)
-
Casper Ruud (2022 winner)
-
Felix Auger-Aliassime
All three previous winners return to the list, while Auger-Aliassime is new among them. It is worth noting that Novak Djokovic is absent from the list, meaning he will once again not be in contention for an award recognizing fair play, professionalism, and integrity, both on and off the court.
The "Breakthrough of the Year" award goes to the player who has made the biggest leap in the season—through ranking improvements, first major victories, or winning their first ATP title. The nominees are:
-
Jack Draper
-
João Fonseca
-
Jakub Menšík
-
Valentin Vacherot
This category is aimed at young players and members of the new generation, regardless of age, with emphasis on those who have made the most progress during the season.
The "Coach of the Year" category honors coaches who have contributed the most to their player’s progress in 2025. The nominees are:
-
Benjamin Balleret (Valentin Vacherot)
-
Darren Cahill & Simone Vagnozzi (Jannik Sinner)
-
Juan Carlos Ferrero & Samuel Lopes (Carlos Alcaraz)
-
Frédéric Fontang (Felix Auger-Aliassime)
-
Bryan Shelton (Ben Shelton)
This year, special attention is drawn to the coaching teams of Sinner and Alcaraz, who led their stars to major titles and battles at the top of the ATP rankings.
New voting system – decided by the elite
Nominees for Breakthrough of the Year and the Sportsmanship Award are selected by the International Tennis Writers Association (ITWA). For the first time in history, winners will then be chosen by members of the exclusive ATP No. 1 Club—a group of 29 current and former players who have held the world No. 1 ranking.
The winner of the Coach of the Year award is chosen by ATP coaches in a second-round vote.
All winners will be announced during ATP Awards Week, starting December 8. Fans can vote for their favorites in the Fans' Favourite category until November 21.
