Ukraine: Progress toward EU expected by year-end despite Hungarian blockade

Ukraine believes it could make a significant step toward European Union membership by the end of this year, thanks to “creative solutions” that bypass Hungary’s opposition, said Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka in an interview with Brussels-based Politico.

According to him, EU leaders could approve the opening of up to six negotiating clusters—the legal chapters in the accession process—this December, if sufficient political momentum is generated and pressure on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to lift his veto increases.

Kachka emphasized to Politico that Hungary’s opposition is “painful but not insurmountable” and expressed confidence that a solution will be found during the December summit of European leaders. “I believe the member states will find a solution in December,” he said after briefing EU representatives on the state of Ukraine’s reforms.

Dark forecast released: “Ukraine cannot win the war”

Ukraine cannot win the war against Russia and should begin negotiating peace terms with the Kremlin, said British Field Marshal Lord Richards in an exclusive interview for the podcast “World of Trouble” hosted by The Independent.

According to Lord Richards, the ongoing conflict has reached a point where military victory for Ukraine is unrealistic, and he urged Kyiv to consider diplomatic solutions to avoid further destruction and loss of life.

He stressed that continuing the war without negotiating could lead to a prolonged stalemate, further straining Ukraine’s resources and the support it receives from Western allies.

Lord Richards’ comments are likely to spark debate, as many Western officials and military experts continue to advocate for stronger support to Ukraine to resist Russian advances.

Zelensky had a plan to win over Trump — then Putin called

President Volodymyr Zelensky, his team, and allies have been working for months to bring U.S. President Donald Trump onto Ukraine’s side.

Their efforts reportedly focused on gaining political support and ensuring continued military aid, aiming to influence U.S. policy in favor of Kyiv.

However, these plans faced an unexpected complication when Russian President Vladimir Putin intervened, reportedly contacting Trump directly. This move shifted the dynamics and complicated Zelensky’s strategy to secure unwavering U.S. backing.

The interactions underscore the high-stakes geopolitical maneuvering surrounding the Ukraine conflict, where diplomatic and personal relationships between leaders can have significant consequences on the ground.
