In the agreement signed in May it is stated that the signatory countries oppose unilateral sanctions that violate the United Nations Charter and other norms and principles of international law.

Among other things, the agreement states that Russia and Venezuela will cooperate in the field of arms control, reduction and non‑proliferation of weapons, and that Moscow and Caracas will maintain ties in the energy sector.

Additionally, the agreement provides for the creation of independent Russian–Venezuelan financial infrastructure, as well as the strengthening of cooperation in sports and culture.

Recall that Venezuela has come under pressure from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, which—The New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed senior U.S. officials—has authorized the CIA to carry out covert actions in Venezuela.

According to the U.S. paper’s claims, the intelligence service is allegedly also authorized to carry out lethal operations.

The Venezuelan government reacted immediately, saying that this represents a violation of international law and the UN Charter.

In addition, two U.S. B‑52 Stratofortress bombers flew past Venezuela on Wednesday as tensions between Washington and Caracas continue to rise.

The U.S. has offered $50 million for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Maduro on charges of drug trafficking in the United States.
