"A country in which the people do not know the truth about their history, do not respect it, is doomed to vegetation. We faced this danger at the end of the last century, when a significant part of the Russian elite, the ruling political class, was influenced by Western values, on whose trail Russia, in the opinion of the West, should follow. We were required to dismantle, stone by stone, the entire solid foundation of our own experience of a unique and ancient civilization," Matviyenko wrote in her blog on the website of the Federation Council on the occasion of Russia Day, RIA Novosti reports.

According to her words, as a result, "the very existence of our country as a unique state, as a unique community of peoples, religions and cultures, is called into question".

"We were one step away from a national disaster... The election of Vladimir Putin as head of state and the unification of citizens based on mutual trust between the government and society renewed the governance of the country, restored interest and respect for its history, strengthened its territorial and political integrity, and gave impetus to economic growth and people's well-being," Matviyenko pointed out.

She added that Russia "learned its lessons" and drew conclusions.

"Even today we can say with certainty that modern Russia took the only correct path, taking from the West only what suited us. Having creatively reconsidered it, we grounded it in the Constitution, legislation and culture. At the same time, we did not allow anything organically foreign and dangerous to our identity to enter our soil," said Matviyenko.

As she added, Western countries had enough time to understand that it is unproductive to talk to Russia in the language of pressure.

"We are open to cooperation, but equal and mutually beneficial cooperation. Europe and the West have had enough time to see that Russophobia and attempts to talk to us with the language of pressure are unproductive. Russia has been losing battles, but in the end it has been winning wars. And nothing has happened in the modern world that would call this pattern into question," Matviyenko wrote.

As she assessed, European and NATO countries are currently trying to ignore the fact that security, economic and social progress for everyone in the world can be ensured "only together with Russia, not by acting against Russia".

The President of the Upper House of the Russian Parliament assessed that this "simple, logical message", which Russia has repeatedly conveyed to the entire world community, "is naturally accepted by the global majority".

"Unfortunately, today at the head of the leading European countries, the EU, and NATO, there are people who are absolutely unfit for the positions they occupy at such a truly historic moment. They are united by a lack of understanding of the inevitability of the changes taking place on the planet, a desire to restore their dominance over the world using the same instruments they used in the last century - fascism and militarism. And also by inciting hatred towards our country as the main obstacle to achieving their aspirations," Matviyenko stressed.

She stated that Russia's proposals presented during the peace talks in Istanbul are aimed at reducing tensions around the world and are aimed at eliminating the causes of the conflict.

According to her, the EU and NATO, together with Kyiv, "brought humanity to the point where the global war of total destruction begins."

"The fact that it hasn't happened yet is entirely the merit of the Russian president, the result of his restraint, balance and the highest sense of responsibility," concluded Matviyenko.
