War in Ukraine – 1178th day. After last night's talks between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and the Russian delegation, peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are expected to begin in Istanbul.
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio and presidential envoy Steve Witkoff are also expected to arrive in Istanbul.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says that Turkey is ready to host a possible summit between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.
State Department official Michael Anton represents the US
State Department Planning Policy Director Michael Anton will represent the United States in today's working-level talks with the Russian delegation in Istanbul. The meetings are part of a broader diplomatic effort in Turkey to find a way to end the war in Ukraine, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said. The BBC reports that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Istanbul this morning and that his meeting with high-ranking Turkish and Ukrainian officials is planned. He will represent the United States in today's talks at the working level with the Russian delegation in Istanbul.
