A new cease-fire proposal is coming in Gaza: Five years of peace?
Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reports that Hamas is expected to propose a new ceasefire framework for Gaza when its representatives arrive in Cairo.
As noted, the proposal includes the release of all remaining prisoners held in the Gaza Strip.
They would be exchanged for an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners.
The proposal also entails the withdrawal of IDF forces from the Gaza Strip. Hamas will demand a five-year ceasefire with international guarantees.
The report added that the proposed agreement includes the establishment of a technocratic committee for civil administration in the Gaza Strip, based on an Egyptian proposal released in recent months, and an openness to a reconciliation deal with rival Fatah.
Earlier this week, officials familiar with the matter told The Times of Israel that Hamas had informed Arab mediators that it was ready to enter into a long-term ceasefire with Israel, during which it would halt all military operations, including weapons development and tunneling.
