Dmitriev said that some form of security guarantees for Ukraine "could be acceptable", reported the Brussels-based Politico.

Dmitriev traveled to Washington this week, the first meeting of senior Russian officials with the United States since the start of the war in Ukraine.

Dmitriev held two days of talks with US envoy Steve Witkoff, who held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last month as part of US President Donald Trump's push for a ceasefire and peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

Speaking to Fox News, Dmitriev alleged that Ukraine had attacked Russian energy targets, but noted that the White House talks had produced a "positive outcome" and acknowledged that the Kremlin may be open to security guarantees for Kyiv.

"Some security guarantees in some forms may be acceptable," said Dmitriev, who did not specify exactly what those guarantees would be.

He ruled out the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO as "completely impossible".

Dmitriev said he sees "positive dynamics" in relations between the two countries, but that more meetings will be needed to iron out differences.

In an address to the Russian and American media after talks with officials from the administration of President Donald Trump, he stated that he sees prospects for the beginning of a solution to the more than three-year-old war in Ukraine.

He pointed out that the talks in Washington touched on a wide range of topics such as the production of rare metals, cooperation in the Arctic, and even a manned flight to Mars. He added that work is being done to restore direct air lines.

Dmitriev's visit to Washington followed US-Russian talks in Saudi Arabia and an agreement on a cease-fire against energy targets with the mediation of the US and enabling unhindered navigation in the Black Sea.

"We see absolutely clearly that the administration of President (Donald) Trump intends to resolve issues, unlike President (Joe) Biden. It behaved with great respect, asks a lot of questions, finds compromises," Dmitriev emphasized.

Dmitriev said that with the Trump administration, he sees prospects for a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian war.

"I think (with) the Trump administration we are now in the realm of thinking about what is possible, what can really work and how we can find a long-term solution," Dmitriev said.

He also said that the progress was helped by the talks in Saudi Arabia and the work of the American envoy Steve Witkoff.

Witkoff, the Trump envoy who has taken the lead in the administration's contacts with the Kremlin, invited Dmitriev to the United States last week, US officials said.

Dmitriev, quoted by Russian agencies, said that American companies are interested in Russia and that they "want to fill the places of European companies that have left the market there.
