Disintegration of Netanyahu's cabinet: Another important man left
The Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli Army (IDF), Herzi Halevi, today officially handed over the post to General Eyal Zamir, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel "wants and will win."
Netanyahu said this at a ceremony marking the end of Halevi's and the beginning of Zamir's mandate, which was also attended by the commander of the US Central Command, Michael Kurilla.
Halevi was in charge of the Israeli army during the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas, but also led campaigns in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria, the Times of Israel reports.
Netanyahu praised Halevi's leadership after the Hamas attack and said many of the operations led by the chief of staff "will remain secret for a long time."
"We didn't break up. We have recovered, we have defined the missions of the active and reserve forces, and the IDF under your command has killed tens of thousands of terrorists,'' Netanyahu told Halevi.
Netanyahu added that Israel "changed the face of the Middle East, and the next phase is yet to come."
